New England Homes for the Deaf opened its 60 Assisted Living/Skilled Nursing Center in May of 2004. The entire facility is designed to give Deaf and Deaf/blind seniors the very best in communication accessibility including flashing signaling and safety systems. Each room is oversized with flashing doorbells, high speed internet access and the ability to use a closed circuit video system for easy communication in American Sign Language with the nursing station. Many of the rooms overlook the riverfront and neighboring marina.
The facility is both Medicare and Medicaid certified.
The Assisted Living floor has 30 private rooms with full private bathrooms. The Skilled Nursing floor offers two private and 14 semi private rooms. Professional nursing staff is on duty 24 hours each day on both floors. All staff is required to know or learn American Sign Language. Several of the staff are Deaf themselves. A Sign Language Interpreter is on staff for medical appointments.
The facility also offers a few range of rehabilitation services, including physical, occupational and speech therapies. New England Homes for the Deaf contracts with Hospice of the North Shore to provide folks with their choice of options during the last stages of life.
